RA Hosts Dinner to Help Give Young People a 2nd Chance

RA’s latest charity partnership was officially launched last weekend with a night of delicious food, inspirational stories and an exciting vision of the opportunities that the partnership will bring for the many young people that 2nd Chance works with.

Hosted by RA and coordinated by graduates Jenna Greenway, Vicky McGarry and Lucy Gibson the evening saw 35 guests welcomed into the newly refurbished Roux at Parliament Square with a canapé reception, followed by an amazing three course meal and petit fours all created by Michel Roux Jnr. and Steve Groves (2009 Masterchef: The Professionals Winner and Roux at Parliament Square Head Chef). The night also featured a speech by the CEO of Unlocking Potential as well as an auction – all of which allowed us to raise a fantastic total of £4,104.

2nd Chance is a London based charity which enables unemployed and often disadvantaged 18-25 year olds to start their working journey. The charity provides the valuable experience, qualifications and skills they need to gain confidence and secure work to develop their careers in a wide variety of sectors, including hospitality, events management and bar work. Through our partnership RA and 2nd Chance will work together to provide experience and career opportunities across our sites, sharing our passion for creating fantastic food experiences and helping young people to build bright futures.

We have previously supported a number of events held by 2nd Chance which have all been hugely successful, both in terms of raising money for the charity and providing opportunities for young people from 2nd Chance to experience life in a kitchen. In May this year 2nd Chance’s Secret Kitchen Event saw young chefs working alongside our own chefs and graduates. One young chef, Ben, had originally joined the programme with the aim of building his confidence and starting a career. He had previously suffered with anxiety and a lack of confidence, hated public speaking and struggled to deal with pressure.

The event opened his eyes to an industry he had not before considered and ignited a passion which has since seen him achieve a chef apprenticeship. He is now much more confident and has considerably grown in self-belief and assurance in his abilities. It is quite obvious that Ben has found a career he is really looking forward to.

We are really excited about the opportunity that our partnership with 2nd Chance brings to help many more talented young people discover the fantastic range of careers and experiences available within the RA team and the catering industry.
